British Transport Police (BTP) strives to provide a safe environment for passengers and staff on the railways. Crime on the railways can have dire consequences, for example daubing graffiti can lead to lives being put in danger, and theft of live cable from tracks can cause trains to crash, endanger lives and mean disruption for thousands of people.

Millions of passengers travel safely on the railway every day, but it’s not all down to us, passengers can do things to help us and themselves too.

In this section you can learn more about the types of crimes we tackle, the consequences of those crimes, and tips on how to travel safely. For resources you can print out and use in the classroom, take a look at our leaflets and poster section or there are downloads for your interactive whiteboard too.
