ACTION DAY

Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime Action Day in Micklefield

On Monday 17 March 2008 there was an action day in Micklefield, near Leeds, concerning serious issues in the community such as anti-social behaviour, burglary, car crime and arson.

There had been a number of high profile residents meetings in the area as well as previous door to door enquiries to get evidence which has led to five anti-social behaviour order applications being made with court.

The aim of the Action Day was to go back to the community and reassure them that action was being taken and to encourage them to continue to report crime and anti-social behaviour to the authorities.

This was done via leaflet/information drops, speaking face to face at home, outside the school gates, near the train station and at a local residents meeting.  There was also practical advice given specifically in relation to vehicle crime which is a recurring theme in the area.

The service of legal documents was also done on the day (except where the defendant was in prison) with some extra police activity around specific addresses in the area.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Action Day was run jointly by Leeds City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit (Contact - John McKimmings Tel: 0113 2478726), West Yorkshire Police (Contact - Inspector Liz Belton Tel: 0113 2322015) and British Transport Police (Contact - Inspector Brian Buddo Tel: 0113 2479847.
