Damilola Taylor
" This is an appeal from my heart to you all; please do not carry dangerous weapons in whatever form they may be and if you find a friend doing so, report that friend to the authorities or give advice."

About this resource
This resource has been written and prepared to address the public’s growing perception of the dangers of young people carrying weapons and associated behaviour, typically relating to gangs.

It is intended to be shocking and hard-hitting in places. Some of the images, all of which are genuine weapons related injuries, will upset some. Consideration for this must be taken into account when using the materials included.

It is intended for the young people to challenge their own perceptions of weapons and related topics through discussion, reflection and research. The case studies have been taken from a variety of sources, all verified as genuine, although in some cases names & locations have been changed or left out to protect families concerned.

The booklet can be used as a whole, a long term project within PSHEE or Citizenship, or as single sessions dependent on the group or class. For each double page there is a task linked to the left hand page. This can be adapted to suit the learning needs of the group/young person concerned. Some tasks will require reading skills that may be beyond the capability of the young person, pairing them with a more capable reader or reading for them would be recommended.
